The word Oppression Was defined by Augusto Boal; is when one person is dominated by the monologues of another person who has no chance to reply.

The biggest goal of Augusto Boal was to act out solutions to social problems.

Boal had direct contact with many UK companies, including Cardboard Citizens, the RSC and People's Palace Projects.

It is said that in 1971 Boal was kidnapped off the streets, arrested, tortured and eventually exiled to Argentina.

The connections at the time with this theatre was mainly liberation. Boal used his theatre to engage with critical reflection, dialogue and the process of liberation and used his contributors to show liberation while doing theatre. It influenced this form of theatre by showing how connected with people and showing scenes that represent the society of then and today makes a great impact to change peoples mindsets for the better.

Three major branches: Forum Theatre The purpose of forum theatre was to explore scenarios that meant reality, in a way that would empower the contributors to find solutions and to change this outcome of the scenario for the better. Image Theatre Image theatre was meant to be a flexible tool to explore attitudes, issues, and emotions with groups that were confident with drama and those who had very little to no experience. Invisible theatre The invisible theatre involves actors that perform a written and a rehearsed problematic situation in a public loaction to arouse responses from pedestrians who are unaware that they are being part of the theatre.

Augusto Boal and Panagiotis Assimakopoulos were involved in this type of theatre. They were also Brazilian theatre visionary and Nobel Peace Prize nominee
